Thank you to the math department for awarding me this scholarship. I am grateful to Dr. Fred Wilhem, PMA at UCR faculty advisor, and Dr. Yat Sun Poon, chair of the math department for their continued advice and support in organizing the UCR student chapter of the PMA. I am especially thankful for my colleague and friend Savanna Gee, for being an incredible teammate in organizing the PMA at UCR. I hope this organization continues to grow and help underrepresented students and I hope to use what I learned in the process to continue equity work in all aspects of my career.

I am tremendously grateful to the math department for awarding me this scholarship, and I am even more grateful to the department for introducing me to the importance of equity work in mathematics. As a result of the education I have received at UCR and the opportunities that the math department has given me, I am intensely passionate about making mathematics more accessible. I am excited about the career I have ahead of me working as an educator and opening mathematics to currently underrepresented populations. Special thanks to my academic peer, Jonathan Alcaraz, for teaming up with me to organize a student chapter of the Pacific Math Alliance here at UCR, my advisor Dr. Wilhelm for entrusting Jonathan and me with the task of organizing this club, and the department chair Dr. Poon for supporting Jonathan and my efforts to bring the PMA to our undergraduate students. |
