2010                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

UCR Mathematics Department Chair, Dr. Chari, is organizing a satellite conference of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2010. It will be held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore -- DATES: Thursday 12 August, 2010 - Monday 16 August, 2010.

UCR Mathematics Dept. Chair, Dr. Chari, will be a Principal Lecturer at the US-China Summer School on Representation Theory. Dr. Chari will be speaking on "Finite Dimensional Representations of of Quantum Affine Algebras". Follow "read more" for lecturers, travel, and funding.

Dr. Owen Dearricott will be speaking at the Workshop on Hypersurface Geometry and Integrable Systems. The event will be held at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. August 24th - 27th.

Professor Yat-Sun Poon has recently been appointed to be and editor for the book series "Surveys on Modern Mathematics", published by Higher Educational Press (Beijing) and International Press (Boston).

Professor John Baez is leaving for Singapore in July for a 2010-2011 academic year long visit to the Center of Quantum Technologies.

Dr. Julie Bergner is giving a talk at the West Coast Algebraic Topology Summer School.

Professor Yat-Sun Poon has recently been appointed to be and editor for the book series "Surveys on Modern Mathematics", published by Higher Educational Press (Beijing) and International Press (Boston).

Professor John Baez is leaving for Singapore in July for a 2010-2011 academic year long visit to the Center for Quantum Technologies.

Professor Yat-Sun Poon is an appointed member of the organization committee of the fifth International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians. For information on the conference, please follow the read more link.

Prof. Lapidus will be a speaker at several conferences including ones held at Howard University and University of Copenhagen; give talks at several meetings/societies; be a participant/visitor at several more; and continue as the AMS Associate Secretary for the Western Section.

Dr. McCullough will speak at the Mathematics Research Community (MRC) on Commutative Algebra in Snowbird, UT, Summer 2010. He is also co-organizing a special session associated with the MRC program at the AMS-MAA Joint Math Meeting in New Orleans Jan 2011.

 

Dr. Julie Bergner is organizing a special session on "Homotopy Theory and K-Theory" with Christian Haesemeyer at the American Mathematical Society Western Sectional Meeting at UCLA on October 9-10.

Dr. Fred Wilhelm is speaking on "Global Geometric Analysis" at the American Mathematical Society Western Sectional Meeting at UCLA October 9-10.

Dr. Philip Hackney will be a speaker at during the special session being organized by Dr. Julia Bergner at the American Mathematical Society Western Sectional Meeting at UCLA, October 9-10.

Dr. Owen Dearricott is an instructor at the third mini-workshop in Differential Geometry to be held at the Center for Investigation in Mathematics in Guanajuato, Mexico this December.

Emeritus Professor Larry Harper spoke at the ODSA Conference (http://www.math.uni-rostock.de/odsa/) held in Rostock, Germany, Sept. 12-15 and gave a lecture to the Combinatorics Seminar (http://www.dpmms.cam.ac.uk/) at Cambridge, UK on Sept. 24. In between he visited Josep Diaz (a grad student at UCR in the '70s) and his colleagues at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain.

Professor Ines Henriques was a speaker at the AMS Fall Central Sectional Meeting at Notre Dame, IL on Sunday, November 7th . The title of the talk was "Ascent and Decent modulo quasi-complete intersections".

Professors Chari, Gan,  and Greenstein have organized a Spring 2011 "Workshop on Lie Groups, Lie Algebras and their Representations". The purpose of the meeting and a list of invited speakers are available on the event's main page.

Dr. Vyjayanthi Chari be giving a set of nine 90 minute talks on Representations of current algebras and their generalizations at the ICM conference in Chennai, August 16th - 26th, 2011. Dr. Chari will also be participating in a workshop on Representation theory of quantum groups at the Banff International Research Station, August 7th - 12th, 2011. She will also be attending and participating in the 40th anniversary of Association of Women in Mathematics at Brown University.

Dr. Ines Henriques will be speaking at the Algebra seminar of IST Libson on July 7th. She will also be attending the MONomial Ideals, Computations and Applications at CIEM in Spain from July 11th - 13th. Dr. Henriques will also be speaking at the Association of Women in Mathematics 40th Anniversary at ICERM (Brown Univ.)  - Special Session on Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra - in September.

Dr. Yat-Sun Poon has been invited to give a plenary talk in the conference 'Geometric structures in mathematical physics' to be held at the Bulgarian Black Sea Resort Albena/Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.

Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Dr. Victor Shapiro has written a new book called "Fourier Series in Several Variables with Applications to Partial Differential Equations". It will be published April 14th, 2011.

Dr. Lapidus has been awarded the Anassilaos International Prize 2011, a research prize in Mathematics. The prize is named after the well known Italian geometer Renato Calopso (son of the renown geometer Pasquale Calopso, of Circolo Matematico di Palermo fame). Dr. Lapidus will travel to Italy this upcoming November to accept his award during a four day festivity, under the high patronage of the President of the Republic and of the President of the Italian Parliament and of the Senate of the Republic of Reggio Calabria. Dr. Vyjayanthi Chari is organizing a conference on Indian Women and Mathematics. It will be held at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) in Chennai, India. It will be on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of January 2012.

2013                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Dr. Yat-Sun Poon is co-organizing the International Conference of Complex Geometry, Singularities and Related Fields. The conference will be held August 3rd - 6th, 2012 at the Tsinghua University in Beijing. Also, Dr. Poon, along with UCR VAP Dr. Todd and other colleagues, is co-organizing a special session for the National Meeting of the American Mathematical Society January 9th - 12th, 2013 in San Diego.

Dr. Rao has a new book called Foundations of Stochastic Analysis being released by Dover Books on Mathematics The book is available in print only.

Dr. Rao has a new book called Random and Vector Measures being released by World Scientific Pub Co. Inc. The book is available in print and as an ebook.
